Simone’s Birthday cushion

IMG_3436

My first Letchworth friend was Simone.  We met at the start of the 2010 hockey season and had two things in common; both new to the area and unfit.  Since then she has become a great friend due to her having the warmest heart and a major plus of being a Gossip Girl and Home and Away fan.

For Sim’s last birthday I bought her a cushion,  it was a flowery print with “Happiness is not a destination, it’s a way of life” written on it.  In my defensive of buying and not making, it was very Sim as she did go through a phrase of using Nicholas Spark quotes as Facebook status updates.

After the success of last year’s gift (judged by the fact its still on the sofa), I thought I’ll stick with what I know except  I’ll design and create it this time.    I chose a  piped edge cushion with a light grey back and  a beige front with a heart shape created from Simone and the name of her children.   I started by drawing the design on paper using Times New Roman as the font.  Using tracing paper I copied the design and on the reverse side went over it in pencil.  This was then placed on the beige material right side up and ironed to transfer the image.  The letters were then painted on with Black Dylon fabric paint and fixed by ironing.   Happy Birthday Sim, I hope you like it!
